Premiership Football

July 25, 2008

The F.A. Premiership was formed by the leading top teams in the original Football League One. The decision to break away from the football league was because they could gain more control over television rights and potentially bring more money to the club. The new premiership would also let them have more general control over their own destiny.

Since the Premiership began, the Premier League has been dominated by three clubs, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Manchester United have been the strongest team and had 8 titles in the first 11 years. Between Manchester United’s success, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal and Chelsea have also won.

The Premiership is the worlds most watched league with the top players from all over the globe. The 1980s saw a lot of hooliganism and the stadiums were crumbling, this lead to English teams being banned from Europe after the death of 39 fans. Then, in 1989, 96 fans dies and over 150 injured crushed during the FA Cup semi-finals between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. Lord Justice Taylor recommended the idea of a complete overhaul in the way football grounds were run and structured leading to the introduction of all-seated stadiums.
